Seven Years of Bliss

IMG_5438My running buddy, best friend, and self-taught therapy dog turns seven today. Even in my wildest dreams I don’t think I could have imagined that she would be such a loyal and devoted companion — be it for an epic run on the Appalachian Trial, or simply a quick drive to the store. Her teeth may be broken and her legs may be aging, but her endless enthusiasm for tennis balls and hugs is contagious and brings a smile to even the darkest winter day. Thank you, Lucky, for being the fluffy wonderdog in my life.

Woodstock Wassail Parade: Norman Rockwell Would’ve Been Proud

Wassail Weekend is a holiday tradition in Woodstock, Vermont. One of the highlights is the parade of horses and riders in period costume. When Mother Nature provides the perfect backdrop of fresh snow and clear blue skies it’s pretty epic and picturesque.

Yay for Phil Klay

IMG_4240So, suddenly, this is sort of a big deal. Phil Klay, US Marine Veteran, author of “Redeployment” and Dartmouth alumn, just won himself a National Book Award. Yay for him. I had the opportunity to try to get a decent picture of him at a panel discussion at Dartmouth last month with Benjamin Valentino, Steven Simon, and William Wohlforth.

I wasn’t particularly excited about the result — the light in that particular room is iffy (as is the case with most of Dartmouth’s auditoriums — or is that auditoriae?), the layout super awkward, and I was in a rush to get to another assignment.

But, as the kids say, whatever…
